Team USA Slows Down Princeton Attack in Fall Exhibition

Princeton, N.J. - Team USA picked up were it left off in World Cup competition with an 11-3 victory over Princeton in a women's lacrosse exhibition game on Saturday night at Class of 1952 Stadium.
Princeton, a Final Four team a year ago, found itself down 1-0 when Erin Elbe scored at the 3:14 mark. The Tigers tied the game with a Whitney Miller goal in the sixth minute. Team USA scored three more times before the half to lead 4-1 at the intermission.
Senior Lauren Simone scored off a Charlotte Kenworthy assist at 38:09 to make the score 6-2. Princeton's all-time leading points scorer, Crista Samaras '99, scored the next two goals for Team USA before senior Nina Carbone connected on Princeton's third goal of the night at 43:04.
Samaras led Team USA with four goals and an assist on the night. Team USA defeated Australia 14-8 to win its fourth consecutive World Cup title earlier this year. The World Cup team held its opponents scoreless for 101:20, outscoring the opposition by an average of 12 goals per game.
Princeton opens the 2002 season at the Class of 1952 Stadium with a Sunday, March 3 match-up against Georgetown. The Tigers will play 10 of 16 regular season games at home this coming season.
