Cambridge, Mass. - Princeton got the go-ahead goal from junior Rachael Becker (Broomall, Pa.) at 29:43 of the second half and the seventh-ranked Tigers held on to defeat Boston University, 2-1, in non-conference action at Harvard's Jordan Field on Sunday afternoon. Princeton is now 12-2 and 4-0 in the Ivy League. The loss drops the Terriers to 7-8 on the season.
Junior Emily Townsend (Houston, Texas) opened the scoring for the Tigers at 27:06 when she scored on a penalty corner with assists from junior Ilvy Friebe (Bonn, Germany) and sophomore Claire Miller (Scarsdale, N.Y.).
The Terriers knotted the game at 1-1 at 15:01 when junior Casey Holman scored on a penalty corner from senior Felicia Cappabianca and sophomore Dalinda Banuelos.
Princeton's second goal was set up by Townsend with just over five minutes elapsed in the second half. She sent a free shot at the Boston University goal, where Becker was waiting to poke it past Terrier goalkeeper Susan Harrington for the game-winner.
The Tigers held an 18-5 shot advantage in the game. Princeton had eight penalty corner opportunities to Boston University's three.
Junior Kelly Baril (Peabody, Mass.) stopped one shot on the day. Harrington made nine saves in the cage for the Terriers.
The Tigers will return home to face Cornell in an Ivy League match up on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. at Class of 1952 Stadium.
