Sprint Football Team Falls to Penn at Franklin Field

Philadelphia, Pa. - Pennsylvania scored 14 points in each quarter of play, handing Princeton a 56-12 sprint football loss at Franklin Field on Friday night. The win moves Penn to 2-0 and drops the Tigers to 0-2 on the year.
Princeton completed more third-downs, was called for fewer penalties and passed for 116 more yards than Penn, however, four lost fumbles contributed to a 44-point loss for the Tigers.
Penn opened the scoring with an 11-play drive that went 75 yards, putting the Quakers up 7-0 with 2:51 left in the first quarter. Pennsylvania quarterback James Donapel hit Jeff Bagnoli for a 31-yard strike 27 seconds later to give them a 14-point lead at the end of the quarter.
Princeton scored late in the third quarter when Rikki Racela capped off a 67-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 40-6, but the point-after attempt was blocked and returned, making the score 42-6 heading into the fourth quarter. Matt Babinsky caught a 23-yard pass from Dennis Bakke with 11:52 left to go in regulation to put Princeton down by 30 at 42-12.
Bakke ended the game completing 5 of 8 passes for 52 yards and a touchdown. L.T. Lawler went 6 of 11 and threw for 143 yards including a 71-yard bomb to Sean Moore, who ended the game with two catches for 90 yards.
The Tigers play their first home game of the season next Friday, Oct. 12 when Army visits Frelinghuysen Field. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
