Troy, N.Y. - Rensselaer defeated Princeton 1-0 in ECAC conference play on Friday night. Both teams played a conservative game throughout most of the game, and when Conrad Barnes scored his first goal of the season at 10:32 of the final stanza, the Tigers were unable to answer in the final ten minutes.
Eric Cavosie skated in behind the net found a wide-open Conrad Barnes in the slot, and Barnes beat Stathos to score his first goal of the season.
Rensselaer defeated Princeton 6-2 on Dec. 9, which was the beginning of the Tigers' frustrating eight-game losing streak in the middle of the season, as the Tigers played a very undisciplined brand of hockey in their own end, which resulted in four of the Engineers' six goals on the evening. This memory definitely lingered for Princeton tonight, as the Tigers opted to play a dump-and-chase brand of hockey for most of the night. Princeton's Dave Stathos and Rensselaer's Nathan Marsters recorded 23 and 21 saves respectively, as Princeton was shut out for the first time since losing 5-0 vs. Bowling Green on Jan. 6.
"I think we played a little bit more responsibly than we played last time against Rensselaer ... Unfortunately, I think that we ran into a hot goaltender tonight, " said coach Len Quesnelle after the game.
The Tigers play at Union tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
