Feb. 16, 2001
Princeton, N.J. - Princeton 7-13-3, 6-8-2 (No. 8), 3-4-0 Ivy
at. Rensselaer 13-11-2, 7-7-2 ECAC (No. 6)
Feb. 16, 2001 * 7 p.m. * Houston Field House (Troy, N.Y.)
story line: The playoff race is heating up, and the Tigers need to win some games down the stretch to qualify for the postseason.
series history: Rensselaer leads 49-19-7
last meeting: 6-2 Rensselaer win at Baker Rink (Dec. 9)
coaches Princeton: Len Quesnelle (1st season) 7-13-3 overall, 6-8-2 ECAC, 3-4-0 Ivy vs. Rensselaer: 0-1-0 Rensselaer: Dan Fridgen 125-97-21 overall, 125-97-21 at Colgate vs. Princeton: 8-3-2
first meeting: Princeton's George Parros opened the scoring with a goal at 0:31 of the first period, however, the Engineers scored the next four goals of the game to take control of the contest.
tomorrow night at Union - 7 p.m. (Feb. 17) Consistent Schneider - David Schneider has scored a point in each of the last six games (5g, 2a).
Captain Kirk - Captain Kirk Lamb comes into the weekend ranked seventh in the country with 0.95 assists per game (21 games, 20 assists), and he leads the Tigers with 26 points (6g, 20a). Lamb has scored a point in 18 of the 21 games he has played in this year.
Power-play Parsons - Brad Parsons leads the Tigers with seven power-play goals. In fact, three of Parsons' four goals last weekend were scored on the power play.
Moving forward - Senior forward Chris Corrinet's assist in the 7-4 loss vs. Colgate was his first point in four games.
Hoping that history repeats itself - Princeton can take solace in the fact that they were able to win at Rensselaer (4-3, Feb. 12) after being defeated at Baker Rink earlier in the season. In that game Brad Parsons had a hat trick, and he scored twice on the power play. Also, Kirk Lamb and Chris Corrinet each had two assists.
Two to keep an eye on - Rensselaer's Matt Murley and Carson Butterwick each had a goal and two assists on Dec. 9 when the Engineers defeated the Tigers 6-2 at Baker Rink.
No room in the penalty box - Princeton and Rensselaer accumulated 74 minutes and 62 minutes respectively in the sin bin on Dec. 9, which set season-highs for penalty minutes in a game by the Tigers and by an opponent. At the end of the game there were ten players sitting in the penalty box.
Zavodny may return - Senior defensemen Peter Zavodny, who has not played since the 3-1 win vs. Niagara on Nov. 3 due to injury, may be returning to the lineup this weekend.
Historical information for this series - The last time that Princeton shut out Rensselaer was on Jan. 3, 1997 (6-0 win in Troy, N.Y.), and the last time the Engineers have shut out the Tigers was on Jan. 10, 1972 (6-0 win at Baker Rink). Princeton has scored nine goals against Rensselaer twice in the history of this matchup, the most recent time coming on Dec. 9, 1994 (Princeton won 9-1 at Baker Rink). Princeton also scored nine goals against the Engineers in a game in 1981. Rensselaer scored 12 goals in a 12-4 win at Baker Rink on Dec. 8, 1984.
Tigers must play well away from Old Nassau - Princeton plays four of its last six games on the road, and considering that the Tigers' playoff position is rather tenuous, they need to win some of their road contests.
