Schenectady, N.Y. - Princeton came into tonight's game against Union a loser of two-straight games, but exited with a fabulous 7-2 victory over the Skating Dutchmen. Quite honestly, so many Tigers had great nights that picking just one most valuable player would
Shane Campbell scored on the power play early in the first period to help get Princeton off to a good start. Chris Corrinet, who switched lines tonight, crashed the net and tipped in a rebound minutes later to put the Tigers up 2-0. Senior Peter Zavodny, who made a successful return from a horrific early-season injury in last night's 1-0 loss at Rensselaer, scored his first collegiate goal a few minutes after Corrinet's goal. Zavodny's goal prompted Union head coach Kevin Sneddon to pull staring goalie Brandon Snee with seven minutes to go in the first period. Union did not escape the first period without any further damage, however, as David Schneider beat back-up goaltender Mark Wise with just 17.5 seconds left on the power-play. Schneider's shot hit the upper-left corner, and Union's goalie simply did not have a chance.
The Tigers kept crashing to the net in the second stanza, as Ethan Doyle scored off of rebound to make the score 5-0 Princeton. Union would score on the power play minutes later to shrink the Princeton lead to four goals. The Skating Dutchmen almost went into the dressing room down 5-1, as Campbell had a goal disallowed when the net came off its marsh pegs just before the puck crossed the goal line.
Brad Parsons scored his 13th goal of the season off a beautiful feed from Kirk Lamb early in the third period, which was Lamb's fourth assist of the night. The assist gives Lamb 30 points on the season (6g, 24a). Freshman Sharam Fouladgar-Mercer scored his first collegiate goal later in the third period, as he beat the Union goalie through the five-hole. Campbell made a nice pass to set up Fouladgar-Mercer's first goal of the season.
Union would tack on a meaningless goal late in regulation to make the score 7-2, but this was Princeton's night. Freshman Hugh McKee played in his first career game, George Parros had two assists and David Schneider had a goal and an assist in the contest.
"We played well for 60 minutes tonight ... Our power play clicked for the first time in recent memory, "said Lamb after his four-assist performance.
"I'd have to say this is our best effort of the season, " added Lamb.
"We were focused, and we came out on a mission to build off of last night, " commented first-year head coach Len Quesnelle.
The Tigers host Dartmouth, who is the hottest team in the ECAC, next Friday at 7 p.m. at Baker Rink.
