Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton men's fencing team (9-2, 3-1 Ivy) did its best today in its quest for the Ivy League championship, defeating Harvard, 23-4, and Yale, 19-8, in its final regular-season match. Now, all the Tigers can do is wait and see if a 3-1 Ivy record is good enough for a share of the league title. A Columbia win against Penn at Penn State today would put Princeton in a tie at the top of the Ivy standings with the Quakers, who beat the Tigers in Philadelphia earlier in the season.
Princeton was led by Soren Thompson (Fr., San Diego, Calif.), who won all six of his ?p?e bouts in the Tigers' sweep and Matt Fitzgerald (Jr., Madison, N.J.) who went 5-0 in ?p?e. Ed Chou (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) led the sabre squad with an undefeated afternoon, sweeping all six bouts.
