Three Princeton Women's Lacrosse Players Nominated for Tewaaraton Trophy

Washington, D.C. - The University Club of Washington, D.C. in conjunction with the Tewaaraton Award Foundation recently announced the established of the Tewaaraton Trophy. This trophy will be presented annually to the top male and female collegiate lacrosse players on June 7, 2001. Senior Julie Shaner (midfield, Gwynedd Valley, Pa.), Junior Lauren Simone (attack, Delran, N.J.) and junior Kim Smith (Baltimore, Md.) were among the 15 finalists selected by a panel of 10 collegiate lacrosse coaches.
"Winners are recognized for their outstanding leadership and athletic ability on the lacrosse field," according to Kevin Madden, who is the media contact for the Tewaaraton Trophy Foundation in Washington, D.C.
"The Tewaaraton Award Foundation is especially proud to honor the Native-American tradition of the game of lacrosse. Lacrosse traces its roots as one of the oldest team sports in North America to a centuries old sport begun by Native Americans. The name 'Tewaaraton' comes from the original name the Mohawk Nation gave to their game - the progenitor to the game we know today, " added Madden.
The other 12 nominees are Jen Adams (Attack, University of Maryland), Quinn Carney (Midfield, University of Maryland), Alison Comito (Attack, University of Maryland), Tricia Dabrowski (Goal, Loyola College), Erin Elbe (Attack, Georgetown University), Bowen Holden (Goal, Georgetown University), Kate Kaiser (Midfield, Duke University), Caitlin McLean (Defense, Georgetown University), Stacey Morlang (Midfield, Loyola College), Kristin Osborn (Attack, Amherst College), Gina Sambus (Midfield, University of Virginia) and Sheehan Stanwick (Attack, Georgetown University).
