Cambridge, Mass. - Princeton tied Harvard 2-2 on Saturday night, which means that Tigers will not host a first-round playoff series. The Tigers will play at Cornell next weekend.
The first period was marked by wide-open play by both squads, but neither was able to break in to the scoring column. Junior David Del Monte played well early, and the cycling of Josh Roberts, Ethan Doyle and Shane Campbell was impressive.
Unfortunately, Harvard scored the first goal of the game at 5:28 of the second period, catching Princeton in the middle of a line change. Freshman standout Tim Pettit found Chris Bala on the left post, and Bala beat Dave Stathos. Further, the Crimson's fourth line would score against Princeton's fourth line with two minutes left in the period. Brad Parsons put the Tigers back into the game with an incredible individual effort, beating Harvard's Tim Stay in a one-on-one move. The Kingston, Mass., native beat Oliver Jonas with a wrist shot from the left circle while he was falling to the ice. Minutes later a goal by Parsons was disallowed when the referee saw that the net came off its moorings.
The forechecking of Doyle paid dividends for the Tigers at 11:34 of the third period when he found Campbell alone in front. Campbell beat Jonas, who is a butterfly goaltender, high with a wrist shot to even the score at 2-2.
The Tigers will play at Cornell next weekend, since Princeton finishes the season in seventh place.
