Lightweight Varsity Men Finish Sixth at Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Princeton heavyweight varsity eight crew rowed to victory with a time of 5:31.45 at the Eastern sprints on Sunday. The varsity eight, second to Brown at last year's sprints, won its fourth EARC sprints title in six years. The lightweight varsity eight placed sixth with a time of 5:49.97.
The men's lightweight eight second varsity (5:47.48) and heavyweight freshman eight (5:40.05) crews each placed second while the heavyweight men's second varsity eight boat finished fourth (5:47.61). The second freshman heavyweight eight (5:51.49) and the freshman lightweight eight (5:48.45) crews both won its races. The second freshman lightweight eight placed third (6:11.92).
The women's open varsity eight crew finished second (6:41.45) to Brown (6:38.40) by three seconds at the EARWC sprints in Camden, N.J. The varsity eight improved upon last year's third place finish at sprints. The women's lightweight varsity eight finished second at sprints for the first time in three years. Princeton (6:51.95), looking for its fourth consecutive sprints win, was less than a second behind victorious Wisconsin (6:51.40).
The women's lightweight four (8:05.76) and open novice four (8:21.80) also placed second behind Wisconsin. The lightweight novice eight (7:22.60) and open 3rd varsity four 'B' (7:42.53) won its races. The open 2nd varsity eight (6:52.88) placed sixth and the open 3rd varsity four 'A' (7:57.40) placed fourth.
The women's lightweight crew will compete at the IRA championships June 1-3 in San Diego, Calif. The women's open crews will compete at the NCAA championships May 25-27 and the men's heavyweight and lightweight crews will compete at IRA's on June 2 in Camden, N.J.
