Princeton, N.J. - Princeton and Rutgers played to a 1-1 tie in front of 1,186 spectators at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J. on Wednesday night. The Tigers remain unbeaten at 2-0-1 while the Scarlet Kights move to 2-1-1.
Freshman Adrian Melville netting the Princeton goal after classmate Ryan Rich redirected a Bob Nye pass from the right corner and the Tigers led 1-0 at the 26:50 mark. Melville's goal was his third of the season and for the second straight game he provided all the Princeton scoring.
Rutgers answered in the second half with Guy Abrahamson's first goal of the season. The Knights outshot Princeton 20-14 on the game, however, the Tigers outshot Rutgers 6-2 in the overtime periods.
Junior goalkeeper Jason White registered three saves on the night. Abrahamson's goal was the first given up by the Princeton goalie this season.
The Tigers begin Ivy League play on Saturday, Sept. 22 when they travel to Hanover, N.H. and battle the Darmouth Big Green.
