Men's Soccer Battles to a Scoreless Draw Against Columbia

Princeton, N.J - Princeton and Columbia fought to a scoreless tie in tonight's men's soccer match that carried through two overtime periods. In a game where 54 fouls were registered, neither team was able to put the ball in the back of the net. Princeton moves to 3-0-2 for the season and 1-0-1 against Ivy competition. Columbia's record now stands at 2-1-2 and, 0-0-1 in the Ivy League.
Led by goalkeeper Jason White (Jr. Maple Glen, Pa.) the Tiger defense held Columbia to 20 shots in 120 minutes of play. Princeton got off 33 shots in tonight's match. White register 10 saves, including one brilliant stop late in the game to keep the score even. Columbia's goalie, Mike Ewers had 11 saves in the match.
Mike Nugent (Sr. West Windsor, N.J.) had a team-high 11 shots. Nugent entered today's game as the team's leading scorer with 4 goals in four games. He was recently named Ivy League player of the Week. Nugent nearly put Princeton in the lead during the first over time when he hit the left post on a free kick from several yards outside the 18. The ball came off the post in front of the net yet Columbia was able to clear it from danger. In all, four yellow cards and one red card were issued in tonight's match. Three Princeton players received yellows. Columbia's Alejandro Berthe-Suarez was issued a red card at 75:36, putting his team down a man for the remainder of the game.
"Compared to other four other outings, I don't think we were as sharp as we could have been," said head coach Jim Barlow. "Our passes weren't on, we had our opportunities but we missed them."
Princeton will travel to Maryland on October 3 at 7:00 p.m.
