One-Timers
Let's Play Two, Again - After playing Notre Dame in a weekend series to close out 2001, Princeton will open 2002 against another CCHA team when it travels to Bowling Green for a pair of games this Friday and Saturday. The Whammy - Before dropping a pair of games to Notre Dame last weekend, Princeton was a perfect 9-0 against the Fighting Irish. Conversely, Bowling Green has an unblemished mark against Princeton, posting a 7-0-0 record heading into Friday's game.
Extra!, Extra! - With its goalie pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Princeton scored two goals against Notre Dame, one in each game and both by David Del Monte. Unfortunately the Tigers were two-goals down before pulling their goalie.
Brad Parsons Project - Princeton's leading returning scorer from a year ago, Brad Parsons scored his first goal of the year in Saturday's Notre Dame game. Parsons has missed nine games with injuries this year and has six points (1g, 5a) in six games.
Del Monte Can - David Del Monte has goals in three consecutive games and a four-game point-scoring streak.
Leader Board - David Del Monte leads the team in goals (5), assists (7), points (12), and penalty minutes (26).
Trading Places - Trevor Beaney spent the first 54 games of his Princeton career on defense before being switched to right wing this year. After not scoring a goal and registering only five assists in his first two seasons, the junior has three goals (including the game-winner at Rensselaer) and two assists in 2001-02.
Beaney Trick - Trevor Beaney is in the midst of a three-game scoring streak (one assist in each Notre Dame game and one goal at Rensselaer).
I'm Honored - Freshman goalie Trevor Clay was named to the ECAC honor roll after stopping 41 shots in a 2-1 loss to Notre Dame on Dec. 28.
Ready, Aim, Fire - Princeton and Bowling Green both allow roughly 36 shots per game (Princeton, 35.9, Bowling Green, 37.5).
Hold Your Fire - Princeton and Bowling Green both average less than 29 shots per game (Princeton, 27.0, Bowling Green, 28.5).
Third's a Charm - Princeton has scored more goals in the third period (14) than it has in the first and second combined (12). The Tigers also have one overtime goal (Matt Maglione).
By George - George Parros is second on the team in goals (4), assists (6) and points (10).
Oh, Shoot - Princeton has outshot two opponents in the first 15 games, and both times it has produced a victory - 2-1 vs. Yale and 4-2 at RPI.
Terrible Twos - Princeton has scored more than two goals only twice this year, in a 5-4 win vs. Vermont and in a 4-2 victory at Rensselaer. The Tigers have scored two or fewer goals in the other 13 games.
Keep It Close - Princeton is 3-2 in one-goal games this year.
Thirty-Something - Only four Princeton players have more than 30 career points, Brad Parsons (58), David Schneider (38), David Del Monte (33) and George Parros (33).
Forty-Something - Goalie Dave Stathos stopped 40 Notre Dame shots in a 4-2 loss Dec. 29.
Forty-Something 2 - Bowling Green goalie Tyler Masters stopped 40 Princeton shots in last year's 8-3 Falcons' win at Hobey Baker Rink.
Surfin' the Net - Only four Princeton players have more than 10 career goals, Brad Parsons (29), David Schneider (16), George Parros (15) and David Del Monte (15).
Six-Shooters - Seventeen players have registered at least one point for Princeton this year, but only David Del Monte and George Parros have scored more than six points.
Six-Shooters 2 - In contrast, Bowling Green has 12 players that have scored more than six points this year. Greg Day leads the team with 21 points (12g, 9a), followed by Grady Moore (4g, 11a) and Brain Escobedo (4g, 8a).
Youth Movement - Tiger freshmen have scored as many goals (8) as the seniors, juniors have account for seven goals, while sophomore have registered four.
Youth Movement 2 - Two freshmen (Neil Stevenson-Moore and James Fitzpatrick) and a sophomore (Matt Maglione) have scored three of Princeton's four game-winning goals. The other was scored by junior Trevor Beaney.
The Puck Stops Here - Dave Stathos and the Princeton record book: career - No. 1 in save percentage (.903) ... No. 3 in goals-against average (3.02) ... No. 3 in saves (2,141) ... No. 3 in minutes played (4,596). Stathos alsohas the top 2 single-season save percentage marks (.912 in 1999-2000 and .901 in 2000-01) and three of the top 8. The senior also owns three of the top 5 single-season marks for goals-against average, his best being 2.83 in 1999-2000.
'C' What I See - Captain David Schneider has 16 career goals, tied for second most (Steve Shirreffs, 1995-99) in Princeton history among defensemen.
What You Won't 'C' - Captain David Schneider fractured a bone in his left foot at Union (Dec. 7) and will be out of the lineup for four to six weeks. Schneider played the following night during a 4-2 win at RPI, however, registering an assist on the first goal of the game. Optimistically Schneider could return Jan. 11 and 12 when Princeton travels to Harvard and Brown. Realistically he will return Feb. 1 and 2 when the Tigers host St. Lawrence and Clarkson. (Princeton will break for exams from Jan. 16-26.)
What You Won't See - No. 2 goalie Nate Nomeland also will be out four to six weeks after fracturing his left hand (catching) in practice. His return date is similar to David Schneider's.
OT For Me - Sophomore defenseman Matt Maglione has scored Princeton's last two overtime goals.
