Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton University men's soccer team earned a No. 10 national ranking in the final 2001 ratings percentage index, better known as RPI. Princeton finished the year with a 10-3-5 record and a share of the Ivy League crown.
The RPI is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. The Tigers finished the season with a win over Quarterfinals participant Fairleigh Dickinson and tied national runner-up Indiana. Princeton played FDU in the NCAA tournament and fell 2-1. Both FDU and Indiana lost to eventual NCAA Champion North Carolina.
Princeton set school records for most shutouts in a season (10) and most ties in a season (5). Princeton wrapped up the regular season with a 10-game unbeaten streak to capture a share of its sixth Ivy League title and advanced to its seventh NCAA tournament.
The Tigers led the Ivy League in shots (263), points (104), goals (34), assists (36) and shutouts (10) with the help of Ivy League Player of the Year Mike Nugent. Nugent led the conference in game-winning goals (5), goals (12) and points (30).
Princeton finished the year ranked 12th in the NSCAA Coaches Poll and 16th in the CollegeSoccer.com Media Poll.
