Kelly Darling scored Princeton's first two goals in a 4-1 win over Harvard Saturday afternoon at the Class of 1952 Stadium. The win improved the Tigers' record to 8-5 overall and 5-0 in the Ivy League.
Princeton opened the scoring at 13:11 on Darling's first goal of the season. Natalie Martirosian carried the ball into the circle and fired two shots, both stopped by Harvard goalkeeper Katie Zacarian. The rebound of the second shot bounced past Zacarian, where Darling found it and scored.
Harvard answered back just over four minutes later on a goal from Kate McDavitt. McDavitt worked the ball through the crease and then fired a shot inside the far Princeton post.
The score remained knotted up through the end of the first period. Princeton reclaimed the lead early in the second period when Darling again found the back of the cage. Following a Princeton flurry, a rebound bounced to Darling at the top of the circle. Darling quickly blasted a shot just inside the far Harvard post. Princeton extended its lead to two goals at the 45:58 when Ilvy Friebe scored her team-leading 21st goal of the season. Natalie Martirosian passed Friebe the ball and she quickly fired it inside the near post. Martirosian closed out the scoring at 49:50 when she scored following a penalty corner
Kelly Baril made four saves and earned her eighth win of the season.
The Tigers, 8-5, hit the road for their next three games, visiting Cornell on Tuesday and then facing Old Dominion and North Carolina over the weekend.
