Lizzie Black scored two goals and added an assist as the 14th-ranked Princeton field hockey team defeated Cornell, 5-2, in an Ivy League game this afternoon. Black tallied the Tigers' first and fifth goals of the afternoon and assisted on the fourth goal. The win was Tiger head coach Beth Bozman's 200th victory at Princeton.
Princeton opened the scoring just 1:29 into the game when Black scored following a penalty corner. The lead was short-lived though, as Cornell evened up the score six minutes later on a Kimmy Gardner tally. Princeton battled back and reclaimed the lead at 16:56 when Ilvy Friebe fed Natalie Martirosian in the circle. Martirosian quickly fired a shot into the Cornell cage for her fourth goal in the last three games. Princeton extended the lead to 3-1 four minutes later on Rachael Becker's sixth goal of the season. Ivy League Player of the Week Kelly Darling assisted on the goal. The Tigers stretched the margin to three goals at 51:55 when Cory Picketts scored her third goal of the season on a penalty corner. Black put the ball in play to Martirosian, who stopped the ball for Picketts to shoot. Black scored her second goal of the game ten minutes later on a penalty stroke to seal the victory for Princeton. Carissa Mirasol added a final goal for Cornell
Kelly Baril made four saves and earned her ninth win of the season, Kaitlin Tierney stopped 12 shots in a losing effort.
