Berkeley, Calif. - Robert Urquhart scored a team-high five goals as the No. 14 Princeton Tigers lost to No. 7 UCLA 10-9 in the opening game of the Norcal Tournament, hosted by the University of California at Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley and Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill. The tournament will continue tomorrow, Sunday October 6.
"It was our best Performance of the year," said head coach Luis Nicolao. The Tigers faced the Bruins without starter Dan McKenna, who suffered a knee injury yesterday during the UC San Diego match and Chris Armato, who had to sit out a game due to a penalty.
Princeton opened a 4-2 lead in the first quarter but the Bruins battled back to take a 5-4 lead into halftime. With Two minutes remaining in the game, the score was even at 9-9 but a Bruin goal with 1:38 remaining in regulation broke the tie game and gave UCLA the 10-9 victory.
Kevin Foster tallied two goals. Dean Riskas, DJ Halliday, and Michael Murray each had one goal in the loss. Peter Sabbatini had 15 saves in the net for Princeton.
"It was truly a wonderful game," added coach Nicolao. "We had a lot of family and alumni supporting us, really a great game."
