The fourth ranked Old Dominion Lady Monarchs scored three goals in the second half to defeat 14th ranked Princeton 4-1 at the Class of 1952 Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers, who outshot Old Dominion, 18-13, and out cornered them, 14-11, fell to 4-4 following the loss. Ilvy Friebe scored Princeton's lone goal.
After a back-and-forth opening 15 minutes, Old Dominion notched the game's first goal at the 17:13 mark. Katie Moyer picked up a loose ball in the circle and fed Becky Loy to give the Lady Monarchs a 1-0 lead. The score remained at 1-0 through the end of the first half
Old Dominion made it a 2-0 game early in the second period when Becky Loy posted her second goal of the afternoon after receiving a pass from Tara Herrman. Princeton clawed within one goal less than 10 minutes later when Friebe tapped a pass from Ashley Sennett into the Old Dominion goal. The Lady Monarchs reclaimed the two-goal margin just 25 seconds later when Angie Loy found a loose ball in the circle and scored. Old Dominion added an insurance goal at 52:27 by Tiffany Snow.
Princeton had several opportunities to score during the game, but could not put the ball past Old Dominion goaltender Marybeth Freeman. The chances included a missed penalty stroke by Natalie Martirosian at 41:33 and three defensive saves registered by the Lady Monarchs. Old Dominion goaltender Marybeth Freeman made 12 saves while Tiger goaltender Kelly Baril turned aside nine.
The Tigers, 4-4, host Delaware on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers have won eight consecutive games versus Delaware, including a 3-2 win last season.
