Cory Picketts' second half goal at 37:21 put the 15th ranked Princeton Field Hockey team ahead for good as they defeated the 17th ranked Delaware Blue Hens, 5-1, Wednesday night at the Class of 1952 Stadium. After falling behind 1-0, the Tigers scored the games next five goals in claiming their fifth win of the season.
Delaware tallied the games' first goal scoring 3:45 in to the game. Jessi Balmer picked up the goal following a penalty corner. Princeton answered back just under 11 minutes later when Claire Miller scored her third goal of the season following a pass across the circle from Ilvy Friebe.
Delaware had a chance to retake a 2-0 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the first period when Kim Wagaman was awarded a penalty stroke. However, Kelly Baril made a sprawling save on the attempt to turn the momentum to the Tigers. Baril stopped six shots on the night in earning the win. Princeton scored four goals in the second period to seal the victory. Cory Picketts tallied the game-winner at the 37:21 mark on a penalty stroke. Picketts made up for a missed shot moments earlier and posted her second goal of the year. Princeton extended its lead to 3-1 at 51:59 when Emily Townsend scored by lofting the ball over the Delaware goaltender on a penalty corner.
Ilvy Friebe added Princeton's fourth and fifth goals less than a minute apart, with the fourth coming at 61:44 and the second at 62:31. The first came following a pass from Nicole Riner deep in the circle and the second came on a rush from midfield.
The Tigers, 5-4, visit Connecticut on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The Tigers have won two consecutive games against the Huskies, including a 3-2 win last season in Princeton.
