Ilvy Friebe's 16th goal of the season was an important one as it pushed the 15th ranked Princeton field hockey team past Connecticut, 4-3 in double-overtime. Friebe's fifth game-winning goal of the season was unassisted. The win is Princeton's second straight and it lifts the Tigers record to 6-4.
Princeton opened the scoring at the 28:07 mark, scoring the only goal of the first period. Emily Townsend picked up her fifth goal of the season on a penalty corner, with Friebe adding an assist.
Connecticut was able to even the game five minutes into the second period when Kelly Cochrane scored. The Tigers regained the lead just less than three minutes later on a goal from Ashley Sennett. Princeton extended its lead at the 54:09 mark on a goal from Claire Miller. With a two-goal deficit, the Huskies began to fight back, first with Kelly Stone scoring at 60:05 and then Cochrane scored on a penalty stroke at 64:07 to tie the game at three. The teams remained tied through the end of regulation and the first overtime session.
Princeton finally broke the stalemate at 96:40 when Friebe scored on her seventh shot of the game. Friebe scored on a shot seven yard shot following a breakaway.
The Tigers, 6-4, face Boston University on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., in a game played at the University of Connecticut The Tigers have won four consecutive games against the Terriers, including a 2-1 win last season in a neutral site game.
