Final Four Bound!!!! Yeager's Late Goal Sends Princeton To The National Semifinals
November 16, 2025 | Field Hockey
Beth Yeager has had her moments in her Princeton field hockey career. The last two weekends, she's added some fresh MOMENTS.
First it was the game-winning goal in the Ivy League tournament championship a week ago. Then, with the stakes even higher Sunday afternoon, there was Yeager again, blasting home the game-winner with 1:43 to go to give Princeton a 2-1 win over Syracuse and vault the Tigers into the Final Four this coming week at Duke.Â
Yeager's goal came on, what else, a drag flick on a penalty corner. The insert came from Pru Lindsey and the stop from Anna Faulstich, and then it was up to Yeager to do what she does. Her shot found its way into the top left of the Orange cage, and a little less than two minutes later Princeton had its 13th straight win and a trip to Durham.Â
And who will be waiting there for the Tigers? That would be Harvard, who knocked off UConn to earn its own spot in the Final Four. The Ivy rivals, who have split two games this season, will meet Friday in one semifinal, with North Carolina and Northwestern to meet in the other.Â
Â
Like the first meeting between the two, much of the game was played in the midfield. Princeton's most unsung hero was Tabby Vaughan — one of four freshmen starters — who played in place of the injured first-team All-Ivy League selection Ella Cashman and was a huge part of a defense that limited Syracuse to just four shots in the game.Â
Looking ahead, Harvard defeated Princeton 3-1 in Princeton on Sept. 26 before the Tigers on the Ivy tournament final 2-1 last weekend in Cambridge.Â

Princeton and Syracuse were meeting for the second time, after the Orange had taken down the Tigers 1-0 in overtime on a penalty stroke from Bo van Kempen back on Sept. 12. This time, van Kempen scored for the Orange with 3:47Â to go off a penalty corner, after Princeton had taken the lead on a brilliant play from Lindsey, who tipped in Yeager's feed of a Tiger penalty corner with five seconds left in the third quarter.ÂWho else but Beth to win it!!!!!!

The goal from van Kempen could have been crushing, since it shifted all the momentum back to the Orange. Instead, the Tigers drew the corner they needed to set up Yeager's game-winner.ÂPRU!!! Tigers up 1-0 at the end of the third.
