Box Score
Brady Leisenring scored at 3:36 of overtime to lift Vermont over Princeton, 5-4 Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Down 4-3 late in the third, Vermont rallied to tie the Tigers, then won in overtime.
Vermont pressured early, outshooting Princeton 1`2-4 in the opening stanza. That early pressure turned into a goal at 12:50. Tim Plant forced a turnover behind the Princeton goal line and then fed Brady Leisenring in the slot who one-timed the puck past Princeton goaltender Nate Nomeland.
Six seconds after scoring the goal, Leisenring took an obstruction hooking penalty that set the stage for Princeton to tie the game up at 1-1. Neil Stevenson-Moore fed the puck to Mike Patton behind the Vermont goal. Then Patton sent the puck to Patrick Neundorfer in front between the circles. Neundorfer quickly snapped a shot that beat Vermont goaltender Shawn Conschafter low on the stick side for his second goal of the season. Vermont continued its strong play, again outshooting Princeton in the second by a 10-7 margin. However, it was the Tigers scoring twice to take a 3-2 lead to the locker room after two periods of play. Chris Owen scored his second goal of the season at 5:12. Trevor Beaney walked in from the top of the circle with the puck and took a shot from the hashmarks. The shot was blocked and Chris Owen pounced on the rebound, firing it past Conschafter. The power-play goal was assisted by Beaney and Neil McCann.
The Tigers made it a two-goal margin, again on the power-play, at 18:55. Neil Stevenson-Moore received a pass in the corner, looped around behind the Catamount net, came out in front and scored on a wristshot high on Conschafter's glove side. It was Stevenson-Moore's third goal in the last two games.
Vermont answered back 49 seconds later on a goal from Joey Gasparini and evened things up at three at 7:19 of the third period. On a delayed Princeton penalty, Oriel McHugh scored on a point shot that Nomeland got a piece of, but trickled past him and just over the goal line.
Princeton roared back exactly three minutes later when Dan Hursh scored his third goal in as many games on a spectacular individual effort. Scott Prime cleared the puck out of the Tiger zone off the glass and Hursh picked it up in the neutral zone. Hursh then skated around two Catamount defenseman before firing a shot under Conschafter.
Vermont tied the score at four with 1:02 remaining in the third period on a goal from Thomas Hajek. Bryson Busniuk found him alone in front and Hajek scored high on the glove side.
Vermont scored the game-winner at 3:36 of overtime when Leisenring pounced on a rebound of a shot from Mifsud. It was the Catamounts' second overtime shot.
Nomeland made 33 saves while Conschafter stopped 12 shots.
