Princeton, N.J. - Princeton opened its defense of the 2001-02 men's squash Ivy League championship by defeating Cornell 7-2 Sunday afternoon in the season opener for both teams. Princeton was led by its senior class, which swept the top four spots en route to the win.
It wasn't easy for the Tigers, as the young Cornell team won two matches and extended two others past three games. Defending national finalist Will Evans, playing No. 2 for Princeton, was taken to five games by Big Red freshman Matt Serediak, but Evans routed his younger foe 9-0 in the final game. Rob Siverd, playing No. 8 for Princeton, split his first two games with Mike Delaney before winning out 9-4 and 9-7.
David Yik, the 2001 intercollegiate national champion, lost only six points in a 3-0 win at No. 1 over William Cheng. Princeton will next host Franklin & Marshall on Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.
