Neil McCann scored Princeton's only goal in a 7-1 loss to Yale Tuesday night at Baker Rink. Yale scored twice in the first period, but Princeton scored the second period's only goal to move within one, but Yale took over for five in third stanza to claim the 7-1 victory.
Yale opened the scoring 6:10 into the game when Evan Wax sprung Ryan Steeves on a breakaway. Steeves skated into the Princeton zone and beat goaltender Eeric Leroux with a shot high on the glove side. Steeves p[osted his second goal of the game 12 minutes later when he deflected a Greg Boucher point shot out of the air and behind Leroux.
Princeton fought back in the second period, drawing within a goal at 16:36 when Neil McCann notched his first goal of the season on a back-hander through goaltender Peter Cohen's legs. Neil Stevenson-Moore and Matt Maglione registered assists on the goal. The Tigers began the third period with several strong scoring opportunities but the momentum swung Yale's way when Chris Higgins scored a power-play goal at 5:11. Wax scored 22 seconds later and Jeff Hristovski scored 1:10 later to move Yale ahead by four goals. Following the fifth Yale goal, Nate Nomeland entered the game in relief of Leroux.
The Bulldogs would tack on two late goals coming from Higgins and Joe Zappala to reach the final score of 7-1.
Cohen made 17 saves in earning his fifth win of the season, while Eric Leroux stopped 22 shots in a losing effort, and Nate Nomeland stopped seven of the nine shots he faced.
The Tigers (1-8-0) meet Yale again on Saturday night in New Haven and then face Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon in Amherst.
