Harvard received goals from six different scorers to skate past Princeton 6-3 Friday night in front of 1,761 fans at Baker Rink. Forward Tim Pettit led the way for the Crimson, recording five assists in the team's eighth win of the year. Chris Owen scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season for the Tigers.
Harvard opened the scoring at 12:05 with a short-handed goal by Ryan Lannon. Lannon's shot beat Trevor Clay through a screen for his second of the season. Harvard extended the lead to two goals at 18:22 when Brett Nowak redirected a Tom Walsh shot through Clay's legs.
The Crimson scored twice in the second period to claim a 4-0 lead before Princeton would get on the board. Tyler Kolarik made it a 3-0 game at 2:48 with his seventh of the season that beat Eric Leroux high on the stick side. Tom Cavanaugh extended the lead to four with an extra-attacker goal at 8:59. Princeton scored its only goal of the second period 3:20 later when Chris Owen roofed a shot over John Daigneau. James Fitzpatrick and Mike Patton picked up assists. Noah Welch scored midway through the third period to give the Crimson a four-goal lead again, but Seamus Young scored his first career goal 31 seconds later to make the score 5-2. The Tigers scored again 2:02 later to make the score 5-3, Fitzpatrick fed Owen in the neutral zone, who skated into the Harvard end, cut across and beat Daigneau with a wrist shot. That was as close as Princeton would get as Rob Fried added an empty-netter for the Crimson.
Daigneau made seven saves to record his first win of the year while Clay, Leroux and Nomeland combined for 40 saves in the loss.
The Tigers (1-11-0) complete the weekend against Brown tomorrow night and then face Masschausetts on Thursday night at home. Fans who bring a toy for Toys for Tots will recieve free admission to Thursday night's game.
