Tigers Off To Quick Start At Princeton Invitational

Princeton, N.J. - Princeton won three out of four relay events, including the first two events of the night to take an early lead at the 2002 Princeton Swimming and Diving Invitational. The Tigers jumped out early with both the men and women scoring on relays and after day one of three at DeNunzio pool, the men hold a 205-point cushion and the women lead by 117 points.
Event one saw sophomores Chrissy Macaulay, Amy Jones, Stephanie Hsiao and senior Molly Seto swim to a 1:35.45 win the 200-yard freestyle relay. The men answered with a win themselves behind the foursome of senior Jesse Gage, junior Mike Salerno, sophomore Justin Chiles and senior James Leahy swimming to a 1:21.98.
Other Tiger victories include senior Carl Hessler in the 500-yard freestyle (4:27.10), Macaulay in the women's 50-yard freestyle (23.97) and the men's 400-yard medley relay team with Stephen Flemming, Garth Fealey, Hessler and Gage winning in 3:20.99.
Princeton's men totaled 357 points while the women scored 329. Rutgers trials the men with 152 points while Villanova is in second behind the women with 212. Day two brings 12 more events with preliminary heats running at 11 a.m. Tomorrow's finals begin at 6 p.m.
