Women's Swim Team In Second After Day One At Ivy Championships

Cambridge, Mass. - The Princeton women's swimming and diving team finished day one of competition at the 2002 Ivy League Championships with 207 team points and in second place. Princeton, the defending Ivy champions, sits 25 points back of Brown and 48 points in front of third-place Harvard heading into day two at Cambridge, Mass.
Senior Valeria Kukla became the first Tiger to earn an Ivy title at the 2002 meet when she captured the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:53.07. Sophomore Sarah Fraumann finished second to give Princeton a 1-2 finish in the event. Senior Katherine Mattison won the 1-meter diving event to give Princeton its second Ivy champion of the day.
Freshman Chrissy Macaulay picked up 16-team points with her third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and junior Chrissy Holland garnered 15 points for her fourth-place showing in the 200-yard IM.
The Ivy League Championships resume tomorrow, Feb. 22 with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m. The championships conclude on Saturday, Feb. 23 with the finals once again taking place at 6 p.m.
