Fencers to compete at NCAAs

Led by seniors Lindsay Campbell and team captain Matt Fitzgerald, Princeton fencing will send seven fencers to the 2002 NCAA fencing championship at Drew University March 21-24.
The women received three bids, with Campbell and senior Maya Lawrence competing in Epee and freshman Catherine Pack competing in Saber. Campbell, who placed first at the 2002 regional last week, will be making her second appearance at the NCAAs. She placed sixth as a sophomore. Last season, she spent the second semester studying abroad. Lawrence, from Teaneck, N.J., finished the season undefeated in the Ivy League and is making her fourth appearance at the NCAAs. She finished eighth the past two years, and 11th as a freshman. Pack, of Flemington, N.J., is coming off a first-place finish at the 2002 NCAA regional in Sabre.
On the men's side, Fitzgerald will be making his first trip to the NCAAs. Fitzgerald, from Madison, N.J., is coming off a second-place finish at this year's NCAA Regional. Sophomore Soren Thompson, the defending NCAA champion in Epee, will also be heading to the NCAAs. The San Diego native placed seventh in the 2002 NCAA Regional. In Sabre, junior Eddie Chou of Ramapo, N.J. will compete for the Tigers. Chou placed 19th at last years NCAAs, and placed sixth at the 2002 NCAA regional. In Foil, sophomore Eric Stodola of Flourtown, Pa. will represent Princeton. Last season, he placed 14th at the NCAAs, and is coming off a sixth place finish at the 2002 NCAA Regional.
