Soren Thompson Takes Silver At NCAA Fencing Championships

Princeton, NJ - Sophomore Soren Thompson took silver the 2002 NCAA Fencing Championships at Drew University on Sunday afternoon as the Tigers finished eighth as a team. Thompson dropped the championship bout to Arpad Horvath of St. John's University to finish second in the men's epee competition.
Thompson earned 20 victories at the championships and picked up 108 touches scored and 50 touches received, both of which were tournament bests. Senior Matthew Fitzgerald finished tied for 19th overall with eight victories in men's epee.
In men's sabre, Ed Chou finished 17th with eight victories and in men's foil, sophomore Eric Stodola placed 21st with six victories.
Penn State won the team title with 195 victories. Princeton placed eighth with 81 victories, 58 of which came in epee competition with the women taking 30 victories and the men taking 28.
