Brie Galicinao Named Ivy League Pitcher of the Year

Princeton, N.J. - Brie Galicinao was recently named the Ivy League Pitcher of the Year and unanimously selected first-team All-Ivy by the coaches of the League. Teammate, Kristin Del Calvo was also unanimously selected as first-team All-Ivy. Three Tigers were named to the second-team and three athletes were given honorable mentions. Princeton captured its first League title since 1996 and will compete in the NCAA Regionals on May 16-19.
Galicinao, a senior from Stockton, Calif. was selected as the Ivy League Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season after leading the Tigers to 13-1 Ivy record and the League championship. Galicinao pitched a perfect 7-0 against Ivy opponents and allowed only eight runs in 49 innings of League work, registering a 0.69 ERA. She struck out 51 Ivy opponents. Currently Galicinao is 16-7 with a 1.43 ERA. She becomes the first athlete in history to be named the Pitcher of the Year twice in a career. Last season, Galicinao was the first athlete in history to be named the Ivy League Player and Pitcher of the Year in the same season. This is the third time in her career, that Galicinao has been named first-team. Galicinao led the League in strikeouts. She also leads the League in hits, runs-scored and doubles. Del Calvo, a sophomore from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., was unanimously selected first-team All-Ivy after hitting .344 with team-high 12 homers and 41 RBIs on the season. Against Ivy competition, Del Calvo batted .333 with six homeruns and 16 RBIs. Del Calvo has shattered the single season homerun record and set the new standard at 12. She also tied the NCAA record for most homeruns in a single game when she hit three against Yale on April 20.
Erin Valocsik, a junior from Budd Lake, N.J. and freshmen, Kristin Lueke from Valencia, Calif., and Melissa Finley, from London, Ontario, were all named second-team All-Ivy. Valocsik batted .325 against League opponents, scoring eight runs. She hit her first career homerun against Columbia. Lueke hit .357 in Ivy competition, scored 10 runs and tallied eight RBIs. She leads the team with 11 stolen bases. Finley hit .378 in the League, with three homeruns and 11 RBIs. Finley is one of three players, and the only freshman, to start all 48 games for the Tigers this season.
Ty Ries, a freshman from Madison Lake, Minn, Becky Nemec, a freshman from Sanger, Calif., and Wendy Bingham, a sophomore from La Crescenta, Calif., were all recognized with honorable mentions by the league. Nemev was also recently recognized as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
