Softball Team Deals Monmouth Pair of Shutouts in Twinbill Sweep
April 15, 2026 | Softball
While putting up 14 runs across a twinbill sweep, the Princeton softball team turned in a pair of shutouts on Wednesday against Monmouth at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field.
The wins moved Princeton to 24-10 on the season overall as the team prepares to put its 12-0 Ivy League start on the line this weekend at Yale.
In game one, Brielle Wright was perfect through for innings before Monmouth got its first hit, and Keala Hollenkamp finished it off by working the fifth inning as Princeton's offense grew its lead with runs in four of its five at-bats.Â
Mia Valenzuela hit a two-run homer in the third and Abby Hornberger had a solo shot in the fourth before Princeton pushed across four runs in the fifth on three walks, three singles and a double, with a Graciela Dominguez base hit ending the game by clinching the run rule.
In game two, all of Princeton's runs came between the third and sixth innings, with two hits setting up pinch runner Sarah Lessig, who made her collegiate debut in the first game, to score on an error. Julia Dumais drove in a run later in the inning for the Tigers' second run.
The four-run sixth inning saw Hornberger pick up a sacrifice fly, Jessica Phelps triple home two runs, and Lola Coole drop in a double that led to a run.
Cassidy Shaw went four innings to get the win before Reece Uehara allowed just one hit over the final three innings to get the save.
