Ivy Tournament Champs! Softball Team Sweeps to NCAAs
May 09, 2026 | Softball
With eight runs across the fourth and fifth innings, the Princeton softball team made it a clean sweep of the Ivy League Tournament, finishing the run with Saturday's 8-0, five-inning win over Columbia at Cynthia Paul Field.
Princeton will compete in the NCAA tournament for the third time in five seasons, along with 2022 and 2024. It'll be Princeton's 13th NCAA tournament bid in program history, and it comes with the program's second Ivy League Tournament title since the tournament began in 2023.
Princeton will learn its NCAA tournament destination on Sunday during the 7 p.m. ET NCAA selection show on ESPN2.
Princeton's Cassidy Shaw and Columbia's Mads Lawson dealt dueling shutouts for three innings before Princeton broke through in the fourth with five runs on five hits, as Abby Hornberger had a two-RBI double, Jessica Phelps followed with an RBI double, and Jessica Roa had an RBI triple before scoring on a wild pitch.
The final three runs to invoke the eight-run rule came in the fifth, as Karis Ford had the third of three straight Tiger hits to start the inning, driving home a Julia Dumais leadoff double, and two batters later, a Hornberger sacrifice fly picked up a Graciela Dominguez base hit. Phelps drove in the game-ending run with a base hit that picked up Sonia Zhang, who reached on a fielder's choice, and the celebration was on.
Shaw, who finished with four hits and a walk allowed in the shutout bid, striking out three, was the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Shaw started all three Princeton games, throwing 15 innings across the tournament and finishing strong, with just one run allowed on seven hits and a walk and eight strikeouts over her final 10 innings, all against Columbia.
Joining Shaw on the Ivy League All-Tournament Team from Princeton were Dominguez, Maddie Ratcheson and Phelps. Dominguez led the entire tournament with an .800 batting average on the weekend, going 8 of 10 with five RBI. Ratcheson was second only to Dominguez with a .571 batting average, going 4 of 7 with an RBI and three runs scored, and Phelps hit .444, going 4 of 9 with two RBI and a double.Â
