Negron Leads Women's Soccer Over Dartmouth 4-1

Princeton, N.J. - Esmeralda Negron scored the game-winning goal and earned the assist on the final goal of the match as Princeton defeated Ivy-rival Dartmouth, 4-1 for its season home-opener. The Tigers improve to 4-0 on the season, 2-0 against Ivy League competition; Dartmouth slips to 1-3-1. Last season Princeton, Dartmouth and Penn shared the Ivy title.
Freshman Emily Behncke put the Tigers up 1-0 at 15:59 when she one-time a ball with the outside of her right foot into the far right side of the net. Janine Willis was credited with the assist. Dartmouth's Lea Kiefer evened the score at 1-1 at 30:07 when she took the ball into the box on her own and found the left side of the goal.
"Getting the early goal let us settle into our game," said Behncke. "We are playing confident and today was a big win."
Negron put the Tigers up 2-1 at 58:30 when she drove home the ball, from Krista Ariss into the bottom left of the goal. Theresa Sherry scored her first goal of the season on a left footed shot at 73:31 and Kristina Fontanez headed in a cross from Negron for the final goal of the game at 81:50.
"This is a big win for us," said Negron. " We knew that Dartmouth was going to be a tough team, we played well and got the job done."
The Tigers will face Monmouth on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m. and will return to Ivy League competition on October 5 when they travel to Columbia for a 2:30 match
