Annapolis, Md. - The Princeton sprint football team posted its highest point output since the finale of the 1995 season, but could not contain Navy's offense, as the Midshipmen earned a 62-24 victory this evening at Rip Miller Field. The loss dropped Princeton to 0-4 on the season while Navy improved to 5-0.
Navy found the end zone first, but the Tigers stormed back to knot the game up a 7-7 on its next possession. Princeton's five play drive culminated in Dennis Bakke's first touchdown of the game, a two-yard run. Navy scored two more touchdowns in the first half to take a 21-7 lead.
Princeton began the second quarter by posting a field goal. Neil Swami's 29-yard kick made the score 21-10. Navy then scored two more touchdowns before Princeton answered on a 69-yard touchdown run from Matt Worley. Swami's extra point made it 35-17. Navy added two more touchdowns in the quarter to take a 49-17 lead to the locker room.
In the third quarter, Navy posted the only score, a touchdown. Princeton got on the board early in the third quarter with a touchdown, Bakke's second of the game, a six-yard run to the end zone. Navy added one more score to reach the 62-24 final score.
For the Tigers, it was their highest point total since 1995 when they scored 39 in a win over Penn. Unfortunately, Navy's 62 points was the second-highest points allowed in a game. That record is 63, set by Hill on Nov. 13, 1931.
Princeton returns to the field on Fri. Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. when they host Penn at Weaver Stadium.
