Hare's Header In Second OT Gives Tigers 2-1 Win Over Cornell

PRINCETON, N.J. - Kyle McHugh set up Jeff Hare for a header in the second overtime as Princeton defeated Cornell 2-1 at Lourie-Love Field. The win improved the Tigers to 5-6-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the Ivy League, tied with the Big Red in the fifth week of conference action.
Princeton's defense contained Cornell in the first half, preventing a single shot by the Big Red. On the other end of the field, the Tigers took five shots and three corner kicks but remained scoreless at the break.
Darren Spicer scored the first goal of the game at 54:16 on a breakaway pass from Marty Shaw. The Tigers led 1-0 for just over 15 minutes before the Big Red tied the game with an unassisted goal by Nick Leonard. Cornell's Steve Reuter took a shot that put Princeton goalkeeper Erik White on the ground and allowed Leonard to knock in the rebound.
After a scoreless first overtime, Hare headed in the gamewinner within the first minute of the second overtime.
Princeton, who outshot Cornell 5-0 in the first half, finished with 11 shots while the Big Red had eight. White had five saves for the Tigers and Cornell's David Mahoney finished with three.
The Tigers travel to Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, Nov. 2 for a 2 p.m. game against the Knights, who are ranked 12th in the nation.
