Princeton, N.J. - Dartmouth scored four goals in the second period to rally past the Princeton men's hockey team en route to a 6-3 win Saturday night at Hobey Baker Rink. Sophomore Patrick Neundorfer led the way for the Tigers, tallying an assist and goal, both in the first period.
Dartmouth's Mike Ouelette opened the scoring 3:52 into the game when he collected a rebound and shot it into the Princeton goal. The Tigers then stormed back late in the period to take a 2-1 lead to the locker room. First, at 15:41 on the power play, Neundorfer won a face-off draw back to freshman Max Cousins on the point, Cousins then fed freshman Grant Goeckner-Zoeller who had skated around the net and was waiting on the doorstep. Goeckner-Zoeller held onto the puck as Dartmouth goaltender Dan Yacey dove across the crease and fired a shot above him to extend his streak of games with a point to three. Less than two minutes later, Princeton scored again to take the 2-1 lead, when Neundorfer intercepted a Dartmouth clearing attempt, skated in on Yacey and beat him with a back-hander.
In the second period, the Big Green offense came alive, reeling off four goals. Nathan Szymanski led the way for Dartmouth in the period, scoring twice and assisting on Lee Stempniak's goal. Jarrett Sampson had the other Dartmouth goal.
In the third period, Princeton moved within two goals at the 4:05 mark when senior Steve Slaton scored his second goal in as many nights. While on the powerplay, sophomore Seamus Young blocked an attempted clear and fired a shot on the Big Green net. The shot went wide and bounced off the end boards to Slaton who was waiting just inside the face-off dot, where he blasted a shot past Yacey. Slaton now leads Princeton with five points this season.
Dartmouth's Hugh Jessiman would add a goal late to seal the 6-3 win.
Yacey made 22 saves, including 13 in the first period to earn his fourth win of the season. Dartmouth remains the final undefeated team in Division I as they are now 4-0-3 on the year. Leroux made 38 saves as Princeton fell to 2-6-0 for the season.
The Tigers only have two days off before they return to the ice Tuesday night at 7 p.m., to take on Yale.
