Final Stats
The Princeton men's ice hockey team scored twice in the third period to erase a 2-0 deficit and force a 2-2 tie with Colgate Saturday night at Baker Rink. Princeton freshmen Sebastian Borza and Brett Westgarth scored the Tiger goals and Nate Nomeland turned aside 28 shots to earn his second tie of the year.
With the tie and results elsewhere around the league, Princeton will take on Brown next weekend in the first-round of the ECAC playoffs. The best-of-three series will take place in Providence beginning on Friday night.
Colgate used scores late in the first and second period to take a 2-0 lead into the third stanza. The Raiders scored first at 17:31 of the first period when Kyle Doyle backhanded a shot from the left face-off dot past Nomeland's far side. Adam Mitchell and Scooter Smith assisted on the goal. Colgate made it 2-0 at 15:09 of the second period when Smith scored his 23rd of the year. Mitchell posted his second assist of the night on the goal. The Tigers came out for the third period strong and drew within one at 5:31 when Borza scored his fourth of the year. Borza's shot beat Colgate goaltender Steve Silverthorn through a screen and was assisted by Sharam Fouladgar-Mercer and Neil Stevenson-Moore. Princeton drew the equalizer at 14:13 when Westgarth rifled a slapshot past Silverthorn. Matt Maglione and Dan Hursh assisted Westgarth's first career goal.
Following the goal, Nomeland made two key stops on Colgate to send the game to overtime. First, he stopped Smith on a slap shot from point blank range and then, with 2:00 remaining, he stopped Kyle Wilson on a breakaway.
