PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior Ray Robins (Paso Robles, Calif.), who earlier this week earned All-Ivy honors as a member of the men's basketball team, made his debut for the men's volleyball team Saturday in a 3-0 win over St. Francis. Robins recorded a kill, an ace, an assist and a dig in the 3-0 win for the Tigers.
Solid hitting keyed the victory for Princeton, as Dennis Alshuler (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) recorded a team-high 12 kills, and Ryn Burns (Encinitas, Calif.) added nine kills with only one error. As a team, Princeton had a .350 attack percentage, including a .519 performance in the opening game.
The Tigers won the opener 30-23, but St. Francis rallied and pushed Princeton to its limits in the second game. After taking a 30-29 lead, Princeton watched as St. Francis hit an error to fall 31-29 in that game. Princeton jumped out to a big lead in the third game and held off a late rally to win 30-24.
Junior Jason Liljestrom (Irvine, Calif.) had 38 assists and eight digs, both team highs for the Tigers. Blake Robinson (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and Brian Hamming (Lake Forest, Ill.) each had seven kills for the Tigers, which will next travel to George Mason for a contest Tuesday night.
Taylor Whitehurst led St. Francis with 13 kills, while Chad O'Brien had 44 assists.
