Durham, N.C. - A tough road loss at Virginia left Princeton in a position it was just not familiar with. The Tigers (1-2) are below .500 for the first time for the first time since the start of the 1997 season and look for retribution and respect this Wednesday at Duke.
Princeton takes on a Duke team ranked No. 4 in the IWLCA Poll released today. The Blue Devils enter at 6-1 overall and have won three straight after falling to Maryland in overtime. Princeton has won its last three meetings with Duke, including a 13-5 route last season at Class of 1952 Stadium.
Princeton dropped to No. 6 in the national rankings after starting the year in the top spot. The Tigers have never lost to both Virginia and Duke in the same season and are 4-1 all-time against the Blue Devils.
This season's match-up is the third meeting in Durham and Duke enters with a good mix of youth and veteran leadership. Senior Kate Kaiser is tied with freshman Katie Chrest for the team lead in goals (17). Chrest has seven assists to Kaiser's one and leads the Devils in total points. It's the senior class, however, that leads Princeton on both the offensive and defensive sides of the field.
Senior Whitney Miller leads the Tigers in goals and points with seven. Classmate Alex Fiore is one back with six goals. Senior Rachael Becker is still leading the defensive unit with 12 caused turnovers and 13 ground balls after three games played.
Wednesday's game, Princeton's second straight versus an ACC opponent, is slated for a 3 p.m. start at Koskinen Stadium.
