Box Score
Brown scored three third period goals to skate past the Princeton men's hockey team 3-1 Saturday night and advance to the second round of the ECAC playoffs. Princeton's Matt Maglione scored the lone Tiger goal.
The two teams skated to a scoreless first period as the play resembled that of last night's game. Princeton got the majority of the quality scoring opportunities, outshooting the Bears 14-10. Both Brown's goaltender Yann Danis and Princeton's netminder Eric Leroux were tested with quality chances early but neither let a puck past him as the teams played their third scoreless period of the weekend.
The defensive struggle continued through the second period as neither team could break through. This time it was Brown with the majority of the scoring chances, as the Bears outshot the Tigers 18-9. Most of the shots came on the power play as Princeton found itself a man down on four occasions in the period. In fact, through two periods of play, the Tigers had killed off eight Brown power plays. Brown broke through at 9:26 of the third period to claim a 1-0 lead. Pascal Denis collected a loose puck behind the Princeton net and fed Shane Mudryk in front of the net. Mudryk then fed Keith Kirley on the doorstep who fired the puck into the Princeton goal before Leroux was able to readjust. Brown made it 2-0 24 seconds later when Chris Swon scored. Brent Robinson beat Leroux to a loose puck and fed Swon who scored into the open Princeton net.
Princeton moved within a goal at 10:08 when Matt Maglione broke in and beat Danis high on the glove side. Maglione's shorthanded goal was assisted by Dustin Sproat. Brown reclaimed its two-goal lead at 11:41 with a power-play goal scored during Scott Prime's charging major. The goal was scored by Mudryk and assisted by Tye Korbl and Swon.
