Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton women's lacrosse team moved up to No. 6 in this week's IWLCA Poll. Now it heads to College Park to face No. 2 Maryland on Wednesday night. Princeton and Maryland, winners of the last nine NCAA titles, battle at 7 p.m. on Ludwig Field (hear it live on WBUD AM 1260 and Online at www.GoPrincetonTigers.com).
The Tigers come off a huge win at Dartmouth last Saturday and bring a 10-4 overall record into Wednesday night's game. Maryland is 16-1 with a five-game winning streak and an ACC title already under its belt. With the NCAA tournament selection show this Sunday at 8 p.m., both teams are fighting for position and seeding in this year's postseason.
Princeton, the defending national champion, has won two NCAA titles (1994 and 2002). Maryland won all seven national championships in between Princeton's titles and either Princeton or Maryland has played in the last 13 championship games. The two teams have also met three times in the NCAA Final. Maryland holds a 17-4 all-time advantage in the series, but the Tigers won last season's contest 13-9. The Terrapins have won the last six games versus Princeton at College Park but have won the last two by a combined two goals in two overtime periods.
Both teams are 9-1 in their last 10 games. The Tigers are scoring 10.76 goals per game while Maryland is posting 13.06 goals per game. Both teams have 191 caused turnovers this year, but the Terps have played three more games and are averaging 11.24 caused turnovers per game while Princeton is forcing 16.64 caused turnovers per contest.
Wednesday's game is the final away contest on Princeton's regular season schedule. The Tigers return home for the season finale against Brown on Saturday.
