PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton men's tennis team dropped one set in the final five singles matches and a total of 10 games in the doubles matches to earn a 6-1 victory over Columbia Saturday afternoon at the Jadwin Tennis Courts. Princeton improves to 13-6 overall, but most importantly stays perfect (2-0) in the Ivy League.
Following a sweep at doubles, including an 8-1 win by the No. 1 team of Josh Burman (So., Boca Raton, Fla.) and Tim Kofol (Jr., Bronxville, N.Y.), the Princeton singles players took firm control of the match by taking the first set in five of the six matches. Although three of those matches proved to be tough battles, Princeton won each match for the decisive dual-match victory.
The tightest match was at No. 5, where Andrew Lieu (Fr., Thousand Oaks, Calif.) split a pair of 6-2 sets before defeating Rohan Saikia in a third-set tiebreak 7-5. Darius Craton (Fr., Waterloo, Ont.) won the No. 3 match with an 8-6 win in the second-set tiebreak over Alan Bohane, while Hans Plukas (Fr., Huckleberry Hill, Mass.) won his second set 7-5. Columbia's lone point was earned at the No. 1 spot, where Oscar Chow defeated Trevor Smith (Sr., Hilton Head, S.C.) 6-4, 6-4.
Princeton will look to stay perfect in the league next weekend when it travels to Brown and Yale.
