Princeton, N.J. - Fresh off a convincing 13-6 win at No. 2 Maryland on Wednesday night, the Princeton women's lacrosse team closes out the regular season on Saturday afternoon with one thing on its mind - a piece of the Ivy title. With a win, the Tigers share the crown with Dartmouth and Yale.
Princeton enters Saturday with four straight wins, including victories at then No. 6 Dartmouth and the second-ranked Terrapins. The Tigers, ranked No. 6 in this week's IWLCA Poll, have won 10 of their last 11 games and their last four by an average of 5.75 goals.
Theresa Sherry enters with a team-high 33 goals, however Whitney Miller comes off a career-high five goal output at Maryland and has 25 goals and 11 assists this season. The Tigers are posting almost 11 goals per game while holding opponents to under seven.
The defense has played well all season, allowing double-digit goal totals only twice and one of those games resulted in an overtime win versus Georgetown. Goalkeeper Sarah Kolodner has controlled the cage, matching her career-high save total at Dartmouth last Saturday (13) and then collecting 10 saves at College Park on Wednesday night. Princeton has won its last 11 versus Brown and brings an 11-4, 5-1 Ivy record into Saturday's game. Brown has been eliminated from Ivy contention and a Tiger win on Saturday gives the Orange and Black a 6-1 conference record and a three-way tie with the Bulldogs and Big Green.
The league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament is not so clear with a distinct possibility that all three teams will be equal in tie-breakers. Should Princeton win, the three-way tie will need a random draw that will be held by Ivy League Executive Director Jeff Orleans. This draw would be held on a conference call between the Executive Director and the three schools at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
Saturday's game can be heard live on WBUD AM 1260 and Online at www.GoPrincetonTigers.com. Princeton and Brown draw at 3 p.m. at Class of 1952 Stadium.
