Princeton, N.J. - For the second year in a row, Princeton will play Le Moyne in the first round of the NCAA women's lacrosse championship tournament. The Tigers drew the Dolphins and will play at Class of 1952 Stadium this Thursday, May 8 at 3 p.m.
"I'm just so excited for this tournament to begin," says Princeton Head Coach Chris Sailer. "There will be a lot of tests and I think we're prepared for them. I'm looking forward to the journey."
Last season, Princeton pummeled Le Moyne 25-3 and set an NCAA tournament record for largest margin of victory in a tournament game. Lindsey Biles scored four goals as 17 different Tigers registered points in the win.
"This is a new year," says Princeton tri-captain Rachael Becker. "Le Moyne is a new team with a new coach. We're not looking past anyone."
The Dolphins received the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's automatic bid and finished the season with a 12-5 overall record. The Tigers earned the Ivy League's automatic bid with a 12-4 overall record and a 6-1 conference mark.
The Ivies automatic bid was determined with a random draw, breaking a three-way tie atop the conference standings. Both Dartmouth and Yale, the teams Princeton shared the Ivy title with this season, made the field of 16.
The winner of the Princeton-Le Moyne match-up will face either Duke or Ohio State on Sunday, May 11. A complete bracket is at NCAA Sports.
