Becker One Of Five Finalists For Honda Award

Rachael Becker has been named one of five finalists for the Honda Broderick Cup, given to the nation's top female collegiate athlete.
Becker, already the winner of the Honda Award for women's lacrosse, was selected from among the 12 women who won the top prize in their sports. The winner will be announced June 23.
The other finalists are swimmer Natalie Coughlin of California, basketball player Diana Taurasi of UConn, volleyball player Logan Tom of Stanford and softball player Natasha Watley of UCLA. This marks the 27th straight year that the award has been presented.
Becker led Princeton to its second straight NCAA championship this past spring. She also won the Tewaaraton Award as the nation's top lacrosse player and was the Ivy League Player of the Year, a first-team All-America for the third straight year and the Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Final Four.
Coughlin won the NCAA championship in the 100 and 200 backstroke and the 100 butterfly. Taurasi, like Coughlin a junior, led Connecticut to the NCAA basketball championship, scoring 28 points in the title game.
Tom, a senior, had 518 kills and 348 digs to lead Stanford to the NCAA final. Watley, also a senior, led the Bruins to the NCAA champioship. She hit .440 in the Women's College World Series and .481 with 10 home runs for the season. She finished her career with 395 hits, third best in NCAA history.
