Princeton, N.J. - Jackson Hegland '99 was recently named an assistant coach of the ECHL's Trenton Titans. Hegland played at Princeton from 1995-96 through 1998-99 and was a member of the 1998 Tigers that won the ECAC tournament and played in the NCAA tournament. Since graduating, Hegland spent a season in the ECHL and three playing professionally in Japan.
Hegland played a key role in Princeton's double overtime win over Clarkson to win the ECAC tournament. First with the score knotted at four, he batted down a shot in the Princeton crease to prevent the go-ahead goal for Clarkson, and then in overtime, he fed Syl Apps and assisting on the game-winning goal.
The defenseman from Calgary completed a four-year career at Princeton in 1999. In 89 career games with the Tigers, he netted five goals, 15 assists and 50 penalty minutes. At Princeton he played with NHLer Jeff Halpern and current Titans Scott Bertoli and Syl Apps.
"Jackson's enthusiasm and knowledge of the game will be a very strong asset to our hockey club this season," stated Titans' Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Bill Armstrong. "He will play an instrumental role in our quest for the Kelly Cup."
Hegland looks forward to the challenge and returning to familiar surroundings.
"I am very excited about working with Coach Armstrong and the Trenton Titans," said Hegland. "It is a great opportunity to be involved with this organization, and I look forward to helping this team achieve great things both on and off the ice."
