Princeton, N.J. - Keely McDonald and Alison Fisher join the Princeton women's lacrosse coaching staff for the 2004 season. McDonald was named first assistant and Fisher second assistant under Head Coach Chris Sailer, who has guided the Tigers to back-to-back NCAA championships.
"I'm really excited about our new staff," says Sailer. "Both coaches bring a positive attitude and lots of energy. Our student-athletes will learn from each of them."
McDonald will replace Missy Holmes, who became Towson's head lacrosse coach in July. McDonald comes from Northwestern University, where she served as first assistant the past two seasons. While at NU, she helped the Wildcats move from 5-10 in their first season as a program to 8-8 their second season.
"Keely [McDonald] was a perfect fit," says Sailer. "She comes from an Ivy League background and understands the demands our players are under both academically and athletically. She is a good teacher of skills as well as an excellent motivator." McDonald received her bachelor's degree in psychology and history from Brown in 2000. She played lacrosse for the Bears, starting all four years at attack and midfield. While at Brown, McDonald earned All-Ivy status her senior year and was on the Academic All-Ivy squad in 1999 and 2000.
Princeton's second assistant, Fisher, arrives from Patriot League foe Lafayette, where she graduated from in 2001. She spent last season as an assistant with the Leopards and served as a recruiting coordinator for the program. She played both lacrosse and field hockey at Lafayette and earned the 1913 Trophy for Most Outstanding Student-Athlete her senior year. Fisher received her master's degree in health services administration from the University of Delaware in the spring of 2002.
"Bringing in a second-assistant [Alison Fisher] with experience as a first assistant is big plus," remarks Sailer. "Alison is a real go-getter, a good coach, and I've been impressed with her ability to break down the game."
McDonald will work primarily with player development and spend a lot of time with the offense. Fischer will contribute on defense for the Tigers.
