PRINCETON, N.J. - The men's soccer team out-shot Hartwick 18 to eight but the No. 20 team in the country capitalized on its opportunities and defeated the Tigers 3-0 at Princeton Stadium.
Princeton controlled the ball for most of the first half but the Hawks took an early lead when Percy Avetrani scored an unassisted goal at 15:48. The Tigers held Hartwick to just three shots but the Hawks doubled the score off a penalty kick by Greg Victor with less than two minutes to play in the half.
The second half was fast-paced and aggressive, with 18 fouls and multiple yellow cards. The Tigers had several scoring opportunities and twice as many shots than the Hawks but Hartwick goalkeeper Josh Wagenaar earned the shutout with seven saves. Victor scored his second goal of the game, and Hartwick's third, off a rebound in the 69th minute.
Princeton is 2-2-1 and next hosts Seton Hall this Wednesday.
