PRINCETON, N.J. - Darren Spicer scored his third goal of the season to help Princeton tie Seton Hall, 1-1, in a feisty and even matchup at Lourie-Love Field.
"We deserved to win," head coach Jim Barlow said. "Seton Hall would probably say they deserved it but that's what kind of game it was."
Princeton dominated ball control early in the game, taking three shots off four penalty kicks within the first few minutes. But Seton Hall scored first when Michael Zotti set up Mike Dziamba in the 31st minute for a shot that slipped past Erik White in goal.
The Tigers missed several headers and Seton Hall goalkeeper Boris Pardo had three saves before Princeton got on the board. Spicer, who has three of Princeton's four goals this season, scored in the 41st minute off a corner kick by Gianfranco Tripicchio. The score remained tied at 1-1, the shots were nearly even (Princeton 12, Seton Hall 11) and each goalkeeper had five saves in the book at the end of regulation.
Princeton took seven shots in the first overtime and two in the second but the result was all too familiar for the Tigers this season - They could not capitalize on their opportunities. The Pirates did not get off a shot on goal in the extra minutes and the game ended, 1-1.
Pardo finished with 10 saves in goal for Seton Hall and White had five for Princeton.
Princeton is 2-2-2 as it begins its Ivy League season this weekend. The Tigers travel to Dartmouth (4-1-2) on Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. game against the Big Green who, until a 2-1 loss to New Hampshire this evening, was the only undefeated team in the Ivies.
