PRINCETON - Despite a strong effort in the second half, the Princeton sprint football team could not overcome an early deficit and fell 61-20 to Navy Friday night in its 2004 home finale.
Navy jumped out to a 21-0 lead, thanks to a pair of scores that came within one minute of eachother. Already ahead 7-0, Amir Shareef scored on an 11-yard touchdown run with less than nine minutes remaining. The Navy defense forced a 3-and-out, and Marcus Walters blocked the ensuing punt and returned it eight yards for a touchdown.
Princeton got on the board later in the quarter with a seven-yard pass from Dennis Bakke to David Gilbert. Bakke, who threw a touchdown pass to Lon Johnson later in the game, recorded 260 total yards in his final home game.
Matt Worley scored Princeton's other touchdown on a 1-yard rush and led the Tiger defense with 10 tackles.
Princeton is off next weekend and will complete its season on Nov. 5 at Penn.
